How Is Cryolipolysis Different Than SculpSure?

Cryolipolysis uses controlled cold. SculpSure uses controlled heat. Here's how the two approaches actually differ.

The headline difference

They're opposite temperatures aiming at the same goal.

  • Cryolipolysis uses controlled cold to target fat cells.
  • SculpSure uses controlled heat (a specific wavelength of laser energy) to target fat cells.

Both are non-invasive, both work on pinchable fat in specific areas, and both rely on your body to clear out the damaged cells over the weeks following the session.

How the session feels

The experience is quite different.

Cryolipolysis: Intensely cold at first, fading to numb. With our system at CryoSculpt Body Lab, you also feel a light tingly or "zappy" sensation from the EMS toning that runs alongside the cold paddles. No downtime.

SculpSure: Warm-to-hot pulses, sometimes described as a deep warming sensation that comes and goes through the session. No downtime.

Personal tolerance varies. Some people prefer the cold; others find heat more comfortable.

Where each tends to be used

Both are used on similar areas — belly, flanks, thighs, back. The applicator shapes are different, which can make one a better fit than the other depending on the contour you're treating. A consultation in person is honestly the best way to see which suits your specific anatomy.

Treatment time and protocol

  • A cryolipolysis session is typically longer per area but uses fewer sessions for many people.
  • SculpSure sessions are typically shorter, with multiple sessions usually recommended.

Both produce gradual results over weeks, not instant change.

What they have in common

  • Non-invasive — no needles, no incisions, no anesthesia
  • No downtime
  • Target subcutaneous (pinchable) fat
  • Best for refining specific areas, not for weight loss
  • Results develop gradually

Which is "better"?

Neither is universally better — they're different tools. The right choice depends on the area, your tolerance for hot vs. cold, and the specific contour you're trying to refine.

At CryoSculpt Body Lab we run the cold-paddle + EMS system because we've found the combination of fat targeting plus muscle toning in the same session gives our clients a more complete-feeling result.
