What Is Cryolipolysis? A Plain-English Guide
Cryolipolysis is a non-invasive body-contouring approach that uses controlled cold to target stubborn fat. Here's how it works in plain English.
What cryolipolysis actually means
"Cryo" means cold. "Lipolysis" means breaking down fat. Put them together and you have a non-invasive body-contouring approach that uses controlled cold to target small pockets of stubborn fat — the kind that holds on no matter how dialed-in your nutrition and training are.
It's not weight loss. It's not surgery. It's a treatment designed to refine specific areas you can pinch.
How the process works
Fat cells are more sensitive to cold than the skin, nerves, and muscle around them. When fat is held at a precisely controlled cold temperature for long enough, those cells become damaged in a way that triggers the body to process and clear them out gradually over the following weeks.
The skin, blood vessels, and other tissues recover normally. The treated fat cells don't.
What a session looks like at CryoSculpt Body Lab
Our system uses cold paddles paired with EMS toning rather than suction-style cups. During a session you'll feel:
- An intense cold sensation on the treated area for the first several minutes, which fades as the area numbs
- A light tingly or "zappy" feeling from the EMS as it works the underlying muscle
- No downtime — most people head straight back to their day
A single visit treats one or two focused areas. Results build gradually as your body processes the treated cells.
Who it's a good fit for
Cryolipolysis tends to suit people who are close to their goal shape and want to refine a specific area — lower belly, flanks, inner thighs, bra-line, upper arms. It's not designed for general weight loss or for people far from their target weight.
